Police Checks

WHAT DOES A POLICE CHECK INCLUDE?

The police information check/vulnerable sector search is formal process that allows us to be notified if any applicant has a criminal record. It also notifies us “of the existence of sex offences for which a record suspension or pardon exists in addition to a check of local police records to determine if a pattern of behavior exists that may result in harm to vulnerable persons”.

The process involves completing an online application and submitting the results to our organization.

IMPORTANT - Upon confirmation of coaching you will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the application.  The cost is covered by SW Basketball.

CAN I USE AN EXISTING POLICE CHECK?

In the spirit of prudence SW Basketball performs police checks every year! We do not accept previous or existing police checks or police checks done by other organizations (ie: soccer, hockey, etc) regardless of the stated validity. As an organization we value of the safety of our children and will always prioritize their protection over convenience.

WHO NEEDS A POLICE CHECK?

We require a police check for every coach, assistant coach, and board member.

Two responsible adults must be present at all practices and games, including a minimum of one responsible adult who has a current police check with SW.  If this cannot be arranged, the event must be cancelled or forfeited.
